You Want a Calmer Life

Though modern living, the hustle, the demands, your thoughts and your nervous system makes this a real challenge

You can’t take a full breath— it’s either rapid or shallow. Your palms sweat. You have a lump in your throat and feel nauseous. Your thoughts are swirling. Maybe you’re having full blown panic attacks. Anxiety is so uncomfortable — but there is a way to work with it and you don’t have to do it alone. Over 40 million Americans are currently struggling with an Anxiety Disorder, not to mention the others who are experiencing worry, dread or trauma symptoms on a daily basis. The Covid-19 pandemic has only exacerbated these symptoms by putting stress and strain on everyone’s lives. More stress, more change, more transition and less community can make anxiety worse and at times unbearable.

The good news is there is a path to working with anxiety and leading a calmer life. This doesn’t mean never experiencing stress or discomfort— it means creating more skills and presence to be able to cope with stress, change and strain on a regular basis. Perhaps this does mean changing circumstances, but therapy can also provide a space to explore new ways of being and techniques to live an existence with greater ease. You already have strengths and inner resources that can be uncovered to cope with your anxiety.

A combination of cognitive, somatic and creative work is key in therapy for anxiety. You will learn how to work with your anxious thoughts, how to deal with the physical symptoms and use creative coping skills to build a secure tool box to return to. Sometimes we will use visualization, parts work or somatic/feeling sensations to guide the process. At times, we may explore historical and background information around the development of this anxiety to create greater understanding of the causes, effects and impacts over the course of your life and development.

You are not alone and you have everything you need to lead a fuller, clearer, gentler life.

“My work with Heather has helped me be better in my work and in my partnership. Since beginning work together two years ago, I have witnessed a big reduction in the near-constant “worst-case scenario” thinking that used to trip me up in my personal and work life. On a daily basis I notice much more ease, self-trust and a new ability to challenge my thoughts when they pop up.”
